Question: We’re in huge debt, should we start over?

We’re at a point of bailing out and starting over because of our financial situation, but not sure if it will cause more stress down the road. We started a trucking business 2 yrs ago that went under and left us with $100k in personal credit card debt. Our mortgage is $2900 and going up to $3500 in 2 yrs.. We owe more than the house is worth so are thinking of doing a short sale or deed in lieu of forclosure and rent a cheaper place until the CC debt is paid off. I have thought of doing a debt relief program, but not decided because of the bad things I read about it. My credit is still high because I pay everything on time, but not able to pay much more than the minimum so not getting anywhere. I feel like I’m throwing money away on this house and would like to get out of it and have some breathing room to start over. Has anyone actually done this and how has it effected you? Do you think it is worth ruining great credit to be able to have a life again?

just last week he closed deal to buy a new home.
with 10% down payment.
do not kill your self of debt.
your health, your happiness,and your family are the most important keys in your life not your credit.
you are in very bad situation . do not waste your hard earring money.

Question: Has anyone used the Federal Debt Relief System (FDRS.org)?

I was wandering abou this company. They are different than a debt consolidator. When I spoke with them they never mentioned about negotiating with the creditors for a lower rate. What they said they do was put my accounts in dispute and wait until the creditor does something illegal that their attorneys will catch, then they use that as leverage against the creditor to wipe out my debt. Like, I dont have to pay it back. Which I thought was strange. All they require is that I pay them about half the amount of my total minimum payments for 18 months. I calculated about $7000 all together to get rid of all $22,000 of my debt. The money they said was to pay the attorneys. The guy said that they are 100% effective but could not give me any guarantees. I checked them out on the BBB and there are no complaints either. What do you think?

Answer: Scam.

Chances are that you pay the $7000 and a few months later you still owe $22,000+.

Question: Which company is better or which is the best for credit card debt?

Which is better for credit card debt relief: American Financial Service (http://www.americanfinancialservice.org/) or Federal Debr Relief System (http://www.fdrs.org) ? Has anyone had any experience with any of them? Or is there a better one? Thanks.

Answer: I would be very hesitant to use any company that is going to “negotiate” on your behalf or that says that they can only negotiate unsecured debt. Many of these companies tell you to stop payments on your unsecured debt. The reason is that they want you to be delinquent so that the credit card company/bank will negotiate. The logic is that the bank would rather get something than nothing. What they do not tell you is that the bank is under no obligation to negotiate with that company. In fact, they are charging you a fee (or a “donation”) to do something that you could do yourself.

Basically, this is a debt con-solidation tactic with the emphasis on the “con”. You get fooled into thinking that your problem is solved. The truth is that debt is not the problem, it is a symptom. The problem is the behavior that got you into debt and that problem must be addressed. From personal experience, you have to make the guy in the mirror behave himself and clean up his mess. That will not be the easy way out, but morally and ethically, it is the right way.

Dave Ramsey is a financial advisor who has put together a common sense plan to manage money. I know, common sense is an uncommon virtue. He says “I don’t want to be normal. Normal in North America is living paycheck to paycheck with a huge home mortgage, two car payments, and bill collectors. Normal is broke. I want to be weird.” And no, I do not work for Dave. I just used his program and cleaned up my mess.
