Easy Debt Consolidation Loans
Question: Does the Army offer any type of debt consolidation loan for new recruits? (read first)?
I’m joining the army, and I’ve got about 4k in debt (mostly old hospital bills)… I was wondering if the army, or even the armed forces bank, offers any type of debt consolidation loan so that I can get this paid off easier? My credit isn’t the best… but on the other hand, I’ll be in the army, so it’s not like I won’t have a job to pay the loan back with…
Answer: Not really. If you are just 4k in debt, by the time you are done with basic, ait, move and go to your first duty station, you will be debt free and have some money put into savings.
You can also talk to your creditors and tell them that you ARE entering the military and if you could work out a payment plan why you are in training, since you really won’t have access to a computer. More likley than not they will work with you as long as you con provide them with proof of enlistment.
When you do go to basic, just remember to take a copy of all your bills, with address and envelops, a check book and know that you won’t get paid till about a month in a half into your basic training. Trust me…BCT is a chance to clean your record…period. Just don’t blow your money when you go to ait and want to have fun. just a little advice of “been there..done that..damnit i wish i didin’t do that”

Question: Question about consolidation of defaulted student loans…?
I took out a student loan 5 years ago to go to college. Defaulted on loan (financially unable to repay).
Collector for Texas Guaranteed Student Loans Blah Blah called me yesterday, and guided me through the steps for the online application for consolidating the defaulted loan here:
www.loanconsolidation.ed.gov
He said it is a government program set up to give people who have defaulted on student loans a second chance.
Gentleman told me that if my applications is approved (and it probably will be), when it is processed, the record will show that I no longer owe money on a student loan.
Question is: once the record reflects my new situation (loan consolidated, debt no longer shows up, etc.), can I apply for and get another student loan?
Answer: Usually you have to make 6 on time payments before they will clear your default completely.
You can go to NSLDS.ed.gov and you will be able to view your loan history. Right now your loans will show as in a default status, once that default status is removed, you will then be able to apply for fin. aid. Or as soon as you receive a letter from the Dept. of Ed (not a lender or servicer) but directly from the Dept. of Ed. you can then apply for federal aid again.
Keep good records of all your paperwork relating to the clearing of your default, as you most likely will be required to turn this paperwork into the financial aid office at the school you want to attend.
Good luck

Question: Need help fixing credit….dont know where to start….this is all so frustrating!!!!?
Here is my situation: I am about 8k to 10k in debt, with really bad credit. 90% is medical bills that I could not help because I had no insuranse. The rest is unpaid bills like cell phone, electric co. etc, and 1 credit card that is wriiten off as “bad debt”. I’m only 23 and i want to fix this so I can buy a home, car, and start buliding credit again. If I just start paying them off with what I can afford monthly (which would only be about $200 at most) thid would take years to start rebuilding. Im also getting married next year with no one to help pay for it, my fiancee’s credit is just as bad. What is the best thing for me to do to be able to at least buy a home? I don’t want to be in my 30’s and still living paycheck to paycheck. ive heard of debt consolidation loans, but if you need decent credit to get a loan, how to you obtain one. I know there are alot of scams that would take advantage of a person in my situation and I want to find a reputable company to work with. help!!!
Answer: EXSOL’s answer is so full of nonsense I don’t know where to begin. Best to ignore it and start over…..
You have two issues. What to do about your debts, and how to fix your credit.
For paying the debt, start by seeing what sort of deal you can work out on the medical bills. Tell them your situation and see if they will work out a payment plan with you over a few years. They usually are more flexable with medical bills, as long as you make your payments and don’t play games with them.
Then, with whatever you have left, negotiate with the other creditors and try to get the balance lowered, or if they will again offer a payment plan.
It’s VERY important that you demand they REMOVE any negative information from your credit report. This does NOT mean to put “paid” on your account. It will still show negative information and late payments. This will still ruin your credit if it’s left there. If they will not promise IN WRITING to do this, do not pay the bill. Concentrate your efforts on those creditors who are willing to help you.
As for credit repair….you don’t need a lawyer. You don’t need a credit repair agency. These people do exactly the same things that you can do. I’ve supplied a link below that goes into it a little bit.
Regardless of who does it, there is no guarantee that any credit item will be removed form your report. There are only two ways it can be done.
Either the creditor removes the item or they fail to respond to a dispute investigation from the credit bureau. If the creditor follows the procedure, there is absolutely no way to remove a negative item, and it will stay on your report for 7 years.
